Once you’ve landed in Santa Marta, your guide will be waiting for you and facilitate your transfer to your
hotel in Tayrona. Check in. (D)
Comfort Hotel, Casa Barlovento

DAY 2: HIKE TO ARRECIFES AND CABO SAN JUAN

In the morning, we’ll leave our hotel to reach the eastern entrance of the park after approximately 1 hour.
From the Cañaveral sector, we will begin a walk through the tropical dry forest until arriving at the sector of
Arrecifes. Here, we’ll have a short break and time to refresh. We’ll continue to Arenilla Beach, the Piscina
Beach and Cabo San Juan, where we’ll have time to relax on the beach. At about 4 p.m. we’ll start our
walk back to Cañaveral where our car awaits to take us to the hotel. (B)

DAY 3: VISIT THE TAYRONAKA RUINS AND TUBING DOWN THE DON DIEGO RIVER

Today we’ll take our transport to the Don Diego river bank. From here, we’ll continue upstream by boat until
we reach the reserve. Upon arrival, we’ll be welcomed with delicious “patacones” and some traditional
panela water. We’ll visit the small Tayrona Museum to learn about the history and way of life of this culture
until today. Then, we’ll visit a typical bungalow belonging to the Koguis Indians called bohío and continue
walking along pre-Hispanic terraces to a small lookout point. Then we’ll walk along a nature path bordering
the Don Diego River. After approximately 1 hour, we’ll reach the mouth of the Don Dieguito River in Don
Diego. Here, we can bathe where the rivers unite, one of hot water and one of somewhat colder water.
After having lunch (box-lunch), comes the most exciting part of the day: tubing down the Don Diego River
to reach the reserve! After tubing, we’ll head back to the hotel. (B)

DAY 4: TRANSFER TO CARTAGENA AND CITY HIGHLIGHTS WALKING TOUR TOUR

Today, we’ll drive along one of Colombia’s main coastal roads for about 4-5 hours to the city of Cartagena
de Indias, a city that combines within its walls centuries of history, culture and flavors, a product of Spanish
miscegenation. The arrival of thousands of slaves from West Africa and migration throughout the late
nineteenth century make this a very diverse region. After arriving to Cartagena, we’ll start a walking tour
through the old quarter that covers Plaza de San Diego, Plaza Fernandez of Madrid, Bolivar Park, Plaza de
los Coches and Plaza Santo Domingo. We will also get to walk on the walls and visit the bastions of Santo
Domingo and San Francisco Javier, where we will learn all about the history and defense strategy of the city.
We’ll get to see the most emblematic streets and learn about their legends, and we’ll visit important churches
such as the Cathedral San Pedro Claver and Santo Domingo. (B)
Hotel Comfort, Don Pedro de Heredia

DAY 5: EXPLORE THE CARTAGENA MANGROVES AND THE SAN FELIPE FORTRESS
The Juan Polo Ciénaga is located at the northern end of the Tesca Wetland, on the northeastern border of
Cartagena. Visitors to this wildlife sanctuary embark on an exciting journey through lagoons and marshes
interconnected by beautiful natural canals and mangrove mazes. The tour begins with a pick-up at your
hotel by our local guide and transfer to the fishing village of La Boquilla. There, our canoes will be waiting
for us to begin a journey of approximately 2 hours where we’ll float through natural mangrove tunnels,
learn different fishing techniques and enjoy the great biodiversity of the mangrove ecosystem. After a visit
to La Boquilla Mangroves, we will continue with a visit to the Fort of San Felipe de Barajas, the biggest
military construction ever built by the Spanish in their colonies. On this walk of approximately 1 hour, we
can appreciate this masterpiece of military architecture made in coral stone and get a good idea about the
defense strategy of the city. (B)
